Thanjavur Sri S. Kalyanaraman Remembrance Day
I've been asked who is the one musician I wish I could have met and interacted with. The answer is always S. Kalyanaraman Sir. Although I was alive in his lifetime, I never had the opportunity to meet him, or even see him in person.
I had the pleasure of saying a few things regarding his influence on me in a documentary DVD "Sunadha Vinodhan," after Smt Bhushany Kalyanaraman heard of my obsession and called on me a few years ago.
He has without doubt been one of the biggest influences on my musical development and I was honored to be asked to sing a concert tonight marking the 19th year since his passing. I'm humbled every time I hear his recordings and consider his compositions, sangathis, kanakkus, and general creativity to really be one of a kind.
Tonight I sang a concert comprised of songs composed, tuned, and/or inspired by him. I hope I did them justice...
